About The Virtual Lecture Hall
The Virtual Lecture Hall (VLH) began providing online CME programs in May 1998. So far, physicians and other health professionals have earned 94,113 hours of CME credit via The VLH.
The VLH is owned by Medical Directions, Inc., an education publishing and research company (contact information). The VLH does not accept advertisements and is supported primarily by fees from individual users and organizations that purchase group memberships. Some course development is supported by grants from federal agencies or health care organizations, and these sources of support are always identified on the course information page. The VLH does not offer courses supported by educational grants from pharmaceutical or device companies. (For more information on VLH courses, see the VLH Courses FAQ.)
The VLH is committed to improving the state of online continuing medical education (CME) programs for health professionals by:
Developing and evaluating innovative approaches to CME, |
Promoting interactive, evidence-based, "problem-solving" CME programs, |
Working with first-tier academic centers and professional societies to enhance their online education programs, |
Performing peer-reviewed research in medical education, and |
Creating an open community for suggestions, ideas, and constructive criticism of CME programs. |

| To date our research has demonstrated that problem-oriented online courses can improve physician knowledge, attitudes, and skills in such areas as cancer prevention and domestic violence. We have shown that courses developed in the US can benefit physicians in another country.
