As a result of completing this activity, the participant will be better able to:

Use empirically valid clinical parameters to assess and operationalize acute suicidal risk.
Take immediate actions to manage the risk of suicidal behavior.
Refer patients with suicidal ideation to behavioral health clinicians.

About the Author

Ole J. Thienhaus, MD, FACPsych

Dr. Thienhaus is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. Dr. Thienhaus has clinical and research interests in geriatric psychiatry, correctional medicine, and health service delivery. He is on the editorial boards of the Correctional Healthcare Report and the International Journal of Offender Therapy and Comparative Criminology. He has published over 100 articles and book chapters, and has edited or written four books.
